Activity 2: REVIEW of IPv4 Addressing and Subnetting with Packet Tracer

Objective:
Students will have a review on how to build a network in Cisco Packet Tracer, assign IP
addresses statically, subnet for 17 hosts, and test connectivity between PCs and default
gateways. The activity will culminate in a PDF report that includes network diagrams, IP
addressing details, and connectivity test results.

Instructions:

1.Groups:

  • Follow your groupings.
  • Each group will choose a different subnet. Ensure no two groups use the same subnet.

2.Network Design:

  • Use Cisco Packet Tracer to design a small network with at least 10 PCs and a default
    gateway (router).
  • Assign static IP addresses to each PC and the default gateway.
  • Subnet your chosen network to accommodate 17 hosts. Consider the following:
  • The subnet mask should allow 17 usable IP addresses.
  • Choose any private IP address range (e.g., 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x).

3.IP Address Assignment:

  • Assign IP addresses to each device in your network.
  • Document the IP addresses assigned to each device (PCs and router).
  • Ensure that the router is set as the default gateway for the PCs.

4.Connectivity Testing:

  • Test the connectivity between at least 5 PCs by pinging each other.
  • Test the connectivity between each PC and the default gateway.
  • Capture screenshots showing successful connectivity results.

5.Documentation:

  • Take a screenshot of your network design in Packet Tracer.
  • Create a detailed table listing all devices with their assigned IP addresses.
  • Capture screenshots of the connectivity tests.

6.Report Compilation:

  • Compile all screenshots and documentation into a single PDF file.
  • The report should include:
  • A cover page with group member names and activity titles.
  • The network diagram screenshot.
  • The table of IP addresses.
  • Screenshots of successful connectivity tests.
  • A conclusion summarizing the activity and its outcomes.

7.Submission:

  • Each group member must sign the PDF report to indicate their participation.
  • Submit the PDF report to ginard.guaki@kcp.edu.ph by the due date.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Network Design: Accuracy and correctness of the network topology.
  • IP Addressing:Correctness of the subnetting and IP address assignments.
  • Connectivity Tests: Successful pings between PCs and to the default gateway.
  • Documentation: Completeness, clarity, and organization of the report.
  • Group Collaboration: Participation of all group members (indicated by signatures).

Deadline:

The completed activity should be submitted on or before 1:00 PM 8/19/24.
